The temple was conceived by His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri, who had got a small temple built on the bank of river Gomati. In 1960, when the flood waters swept most of Lucknow, the old bridge near the temple was swept away. The old temple was also swept by the flood leaving only the statue of Lord in the middle. The Government allotted a new plot near the new bridge for the construction of the temple. The construction of the present temple began with the blessing of His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri. The design was made by architect Shri Kanvinde Rai. Joshi & Co., which built the nearby bridge, constructed the temple. The one-piece whole marble 6.5 ft. (197.3 cm) Idol was sculpted in Jaipur. Pran Pratishtha of the temple was performed by His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri on the Basant Panchami day on January 26, 1967. The temple has an oval puja hall, which has a sitting capacity of 250 persons. The Idol is visible from all corners of the puja hall and also from the road.

The frescoes in the temple are very beautiful. There are cement bust of Lord Ram & Sita on one side and Lord Ram and Lakshman along with the vanar sena performing Shiv Puja (Setu Bandh Rameshwaram Scene) on the wall. The beautiful architectural design is a perfect blend of old with new.
